Our Sustainability Journey

At The Majestic Hotel, sustainability is a journey and one we are committed to continuing year after year.

As a family-run hotel overlooking Tramore Bay, we are fortunate to call one of Ireland’s most beautiful coastal communities home. Our location gives us an even greater appreciation of the importance of protecting our environment, supporting our local community and ensuring that Tramore remains a wonderful place to live, work and visit for generations to come.

We recognise that operating a busy hotel has an environmental impact. Our responsibility is to understand that impact and continually look for practical ways to reduce it.

From the energy we use and the waste we produce, to the food we serve, the suppliers we choose and the way we refurbish our hotel, sustainability is increasingly becoming part of our everyday decision-making.

We don’t claim to have all the answers. This is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to making meaningful improvements wherever we can.

Our Commitment to Climate Action

The Majestic Hotel is proud to be participating in Fáilte Ireland’s Climate Action Programme, supporting our commitment to becoming a more sustainable and environmentally responsible hotel.

Through the programme, we are working with expert guidance to better understand our environmental impact, measure our progress and develop a tailored Climate Action Plan for the hotel.

This is a long-term commitment. Over the three-year programme, we will continue to identify practical opportunities to reduce our carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste and embed more sustainable practices throughout our day-to-day operations.

For us, this is about making measurable, meaningful improvements, not simply talking about sustainability. As our Climate Action Plan develops, we look forward to sharing our progress, achievements and future targets with our guests, team and community.

Our Hotel & Team

Across The Majestic, we are continually reviewing how we can reduce our consumption of energy and resources.

As we refurbish and invest in the hotel, sustainability and energy efficiency form part of our decision-making process. We are gradually replacing older equipment and lighting with more energy-efficient alternatives and encouraging responsible energy use throughout all departments.

We are also working to reduce unnecessary paper use, improve waste segregation and recycling, and reduce our reliance on single-use products.

Where furniture, equipment and other hotel items are being replaced, we aim to reuse, repurpose or donate them wherever practical rather than simply disposing of them.

Bedrooms & Housekeeping
Our housekeeping team plays an important part in reducing the environmental impact of every guest stay.

We continually review the cleaning products, guest amenities and materials used throughout our bedrooms and are working towards reducing unnecessary packaging and single-use plastics.

Guests can also help us conserve water and energy during their stay through simple choices such as reusing towels where possible and switching off lights and electrical items when leaving their bedroom.

Food & Beverage
Reducing food waste and supporting local suppliers are important parts of our sustainability journey.

Our kitchen team carefully manages purchasing, preparation and stock levels to minimise unnecessary food waste across our restaurants, bars, weddings and events.

Where possible, we choose Irish and local suppliers and producers, supporting businesses within Waterford and the wider South East while reducing the distance our food and supplies need to travel.

We also recognise the growing importance of offering choice and continue to develop our vegetarian and plant-based options across our menus.

Our Team

Our sustainability journey involves every member of The Majestic team.

We encourage our team to consider sustainability in their everyday roles –  whether that’s reducing food waste in our kitchens, conserving energy, correctly separating waste, reducing unnecessary printing or simply identifying a better way of doing something.

Some of the best changes come from the people working in our hotel every day, and we encourage our team to share ideas about how we can continue to improve.

Supporting Local

For us, sustainability isn’t only about the environment. It is also about supporting the community around us.

The Majestic Hotel has been part of Tramore for generations, and we are proud to support local businesses, suppliers, organisations, charities, clubs and community initiatives.

We actively encourage our guests to discover Tramore and Waterford during their stay; from our 5km beach and coastal walks to local attractions, independent businesses and experiences throughout the county.

Supporting our destination helps create a stronger local economy and a thriving community for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Play your Part

Our guests can make a difference too.

During your stay, you can help us by:

• Reusing your towels when they don’t need to be replaced.

• Switching off lights and electrical equipment when leaving your bedroom.

• Avoiding unnecessary water use.

• Letting our team know if you notice a leaking tap or other maintenance issue.

• Recycling where facilities are provided.

• Exploring Tramore and supporting our fantastic local businesses, producers and attractions.

Every small action contributes to something bigger.

Our Journey Continues

We know sustainability is not a destination or a box to be ticked.

It is about continually questioning how we operate, measuring where we can improve and making responsible changes that are realistic, meaningful and lasting.

As The Majestic Hotel continues to evolve, so too will our approach to sustainability.

Our journey has already begun and we look forward to sharing our progress along the way.
